Privacy Policy
What this policy covers
This policy explains how Jury Verdicts Northwest (“JVNW,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information when you visit our website, create or use a research account, search or open case materials, purchase access, contact us, or upload a file. The research archive contains court and legal-report information; this policy is about information tied to users and their use of the service.
Information we collect
- Account and profile information: name, email, password hash, account role and status, and profile preferences.
- Searches and case interactions: search terms, filters, compiled Ask queries, result counts, case views, downloads, timestamps, and related service diagnostics.
- Uploaded files and metadata: submitted files, publication or matter details, file names, size and cryptographic hashes, processing status, extracted fields, review notes, and the submitting account. Legal files may contain personal or sensitive information about people named in a matter.
- Billing-provider data: processor, transaction and subscription identifiers, payment status, amount, and billing contact details made available to us. JVNW does not need to store a complete card or bank-account number. PayPal is the planned launch processor; payment collection is not active in the preview.
- Session cookies, presence, and preference storage: HTTP-only cookies used to keep you signed in, admit an authorized preview visit, and assign an anonymous browser a random 30-minute presence token. The public website and the research application each store your analytics choice in your browser, separately. If you opt in, Google Analytics sets first-party analytics cookies for up to 180 days. We do not use advertising cookies.
- Network and device data: IP address, request time, requested path, response status, and limited technical information needed to deliver, monitor, and protect the service. JVNW records safe error summaries, failed sign-ins, and short presence observations; it never records passwords, request bodies, cookies, authorization headers, query strings, uploaded-file contents, or full stack traces in that operational ledger. With your permission, on the public website or in the research application, Google Analytics receives a path-only page location, page title, browser/device data, a pseudonymous client identifier, and approximate geography. Google may transiently process the request IP before discarding it from Analytics event logs. In the research application every location is first reduced to a fixed list of page types, so the identity of a case, order, or receipt you open is removed before anything is sent. Your account, search terms, case details, form entries, and upload data are never sent to Google Analytics, and the administrative pages never load it at all.
- Communications: contact, subscription, search, sample, and case-report requests and follow-up correspondence.
How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and research, run exact and Ask searches, deliver case documents, process authorized uploads, administer memberships and search allowances, support users, maintain records, improve reliability, and comply with law. We use IP addresses for security, fraud and abuse prevention, rate limiting, troubleshooting, acceptance evidence, and internal analytics. First-party presence observations let administrators see current and within-day aggregate activity. If you consent on the public website, Google Analytics gives us aggregate page-visit and engagement trends. Advertising storage, Google Signals, ad personalization, and user-level account identification stay disabled. Longer-term first-party reporting uses aggregated or de-identified information instead of raw IP addresses.
We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. We do not let a per-query AI model decide exact-search matches. AI-assisted output remains tied to source material and the product’s review and citation controls.
Processors and providers
Current or planned providers include Google Cloud for application hosting, databases, private file storage, logs, and document processing; Google Analytics for consented page-visit measurement only; Anthropic for specifically invoked Ask and document-extraction features; PayPal for launch payment processing after checkout is approved; Resend for email delivery after the sending domain is enabled; and professional advisers where needed. Each provider handles information under its own terms and our instructions or configuration. A provider for a disabled feature does not receive production data through that feature.
Retention and deletion
| Record | Retention practice |
|---|---|
| Raw IP stored with policy acceptance | 30 days, then deleted by an owner-only cleanup job. The non-network acceptance record remains. |
| Rate-limit identifiers | Keyed, pseudonymous buckets are deleted after 48 hours. |
| Operational errors and failed sign-ins | Safe event records are retained for 90 days. Any raw IP stored with an event is removed after 30 days. |
| Site presence | Current-presence rows and identity-bearing five-minute activity buckets are deleted after 48 hours. Before those buckets are removed, an owner-only job retains only aggregate authenticated, anonymous, and total counts; those aggregate five-minute rollups are retained for up to 730 days. |
| Optional Google Analytics | First-party analytics cookies expire after 180 days without a rolling extension. If enabled, Analytics event and user data are configured for 14-month retention; aggregate standard reports may remain available under Google’s service rules. |
| Session | Up to 30 days, or earlier when revoked or signed out. |
| Search and case-interaction history | Up to 24 months, then deleted or reduced to aggregate or de-identified reporting unless needed for security or a dispute. |
| Account and profile | While active and up to 30 days after a verified deletion request, unless law or a dispute requires longer. |
| Uploaded files and metadata | Until an authorized owner deletes them or the service relationship ends. Deleted storage objects may remain in protective soft-delete storage for up to 7 days; backup copies age out on the ordinary schedule. |
| Billing and acceptance records | Transaction and non-network acceptance records may be kept for seven years for tax, accounting, authorization, and dispute records. The payment provider applies its own retention notice. |
| Communications | While a request is active and up to two years afterward unless longer is reasonably needed for the relationship or a legal obligation. |
We may retain a record longer for security, fraud prevention, a legal hold, a dispute, or another legal obligation. When active-system deletion is approved, relevant processors are directed as required; backup copies age out instead of returning to active use.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live and subject to legal exceptions, you may ask to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; ask for categories of third parties or processors that receive it; withdraw consent where consent is the basis; or opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or qualifying profiling. JVNW does not currently sell personal information or use targeted advertising. You may appeal a denied request by replying and asking for an appeal, and may complain to the applicable regulator or attorney general.
Use the persistent Cookie settings control on any public page, and in the research application, to choose Essential only, allow analytics, or withdraw a prior analytics choice. Each surface asks separately and remembers your answer separately. No Google Analytics script or request is made before you opt in. Withdrawing consent stops future collection and removes that surface’s accessible Google Analytics cookies from your browser.
We verify requests to protect accounts and the people described in legal records. A request to delete customer-supplied case material must come from an authorized account or content owner. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
Security, children, and changes
We use private storage, transport encryption, least-privilege access, audit records, and other safeguards appropriate to the service. No system can promise absolute security. JVNW is a professional legal-research service and is not directed to children under 18.
We will post a new version and date before a material change becomes effective. When required, we will give additional notice and request a new, unchecked acceptance.
